Government Transition
On December 8, 2024, a big change happened in Syria. Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali announced that President Assad's government was no longer in power. He said he was ready to work with the new opposition leaders. He wanted to make sure that important government services and buildings would continue to work smoothly.
Ahmed al-Sharaa, a leader of a group called Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, said that al-Jalali would lead the government for a short time. This was to help with the change until a new government was officially set up. Al-Jalali also called for new elections so the Syrian people could choose their new leaders.
