Mohapatra Nilamani Sahoo (born December 22, 1926 – died June 25, 2016) was a famous Indian writer. He wrote many short stories in the Odia language. He won several important awards for his writing. These included the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award in 1979 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1984. Mr. Sahoo passed away on June 25, 2016, at the age of 89.

Early Life and Education
Mohapatra Nilamani Sahoo was born on December 22, 1926. His birthplace was Niali, a town in the Cuttack district of India. He came from a well-known family.
He went to Binjharpur High School. Later, he studied at Ravenshaw College in Cuttack. There, he earned degrees in the Odia language.
After college, he worked as a librarian. This was at Sambalpur University for two years. Then, he became a teacher of Odia. He taught at Bhadrak College. He also taught at Paralakhemundi Government College in Gajapati. He later became a leader at BJB Evening College. He served as both vice-principal and principal there.
His Writing Journey and Awards
Mr. Sahoo wrote many short stories. Some famous ones include Prema Tribhuja (1952) and Michha Bagha (1955). He also wrote novels like Dhara O Dhara and Hansa Mithuna. He even created plays for children.
Important Books and Recognition
His 1979 book Akasha Patala won an award. It received the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award. Another collection, Abhisapta Gandharba, won two awards. It got the Sarala Award in 1983. Then, it won a Sahitya Akademi Award for Odia in 1984. This book was later translated into Hindi.
Working with Magazines
From 1965 to 1969, Mr. Sahoo worked for Jhankara magazine. He was an editor and writer there. He also edited other magazines like Utkala Prasanga. He often wrote about the ideas of thinkers like Sri Aurobindo. He also gave talks about important spiritual leaders.
Mr. Sahoo received more awards for his work. These included the Kanta Kabi Award in 2001. He also got the Sahitya Bharati Award in 2006. In 2013, he received the Utkal Ratna Award. His stories often showed how people feel. They also used humor to make points about human behavior.
