Location and History
Mohawk is found along U.S. Highway 41. It is just north of the village of Ahmeek. This area is famous for its history of mining.
Copper Mining in Mohawk
Mohawk was once a very important place for mining. The Mohawk Mining Company operated here in the early 1900s. They dug for copper, which was a valuable resource. A very rare mineral called Mohawkite is believed to be found only in the Mohawk Mine. This makes it a unique part of the community's history.
