Discover Mohawk Mountain Ski Area

Mohawk Mountain is a great spot for winter sports. It offers a variety of slopes for different skill levels. You can find trails that are perfect for beginners or more challenging runs for experienced skiers.

What Can You Do There?

Mohawk Mountain has 26 different trails for skiing and snowboarding. The longest run is called Deer Run, and it's about 1.25 miles long! To get up the mountain, there are 8 different lifts. These include 5 triple chairlifts and 3 surface lifts, which are like moving ropes or bars that pull you up.

How Mohawk Mountain Made History

Mohawk Mountain is known for its amazing work with artificial snow. Back in the day, they were pioneers in creating and using snow guns. This means they helped invent and make popular the way ski resorts create snow when there isn't enough natural snowfall. Today, almost all of their skiable area, about 99%, can be covered with man-made snow.

A Look Back: Mohawk Mountain's History

Mohawk Mountain has a long and interesting history. It has grown and changed a lot since it first opened.

Early Days and Growth

The ski area first opened its doors in 1947. It was started by Walt Schoenknecht, who later became famous for another ski resort called Mount Snow. Over the years, Mohawk Mountain added new ways to get up the slopes. In 1969, a new double chairlift was put in. Then, in 1978, a new triple chairlift was added, making it easier for more people to enjoy the mountain.

Overcoming Challenges

In 1989, a powerful tornado hit the area. It caused a lot of damage to the ski area's lifts and many trees. Even though the lifts were rebuilt, you can still see the effects of the tornado on the trees from the bottom of the mountain today.

Modern Updates and Fun

Mohawk Mountain keeps updating to make sure visitors have the best experience. In the summer of 2008, they installed a new CTEC triple chairlift. This lift used to be at Loon Mountain from 1984 to 2004, and now it's known as the Mohawk Triple Chair. More recently, in 2019, Mohawk Mountain added snowtubing to its list of fun activities. This means you can now slide down the mountain on a tube, which is a super exciting way to enjoy the snow!
