The Mohawk River is a cool river in northern New Hampshire, United States. It's about 13.8-mile-long (22.2 km). This river is like a smaller stream that feeds into a much bigger one, the Connecticut River. The Connecticut River then travels south all the way to Long Island Sound, which is part of the huge Atlantic Ocean!

About the Mohawk River

The Mohawk River is located in the northern part of New Hampshire. It flows through a beautiful area known for its natural scenery. The river plays an important role in the local environment.

Where the River Starts

The Mohawk River begins at a place called Lake Gloriette. This lake is found in Dixville Notch. Imagine a small lake high up, and the river starts flowing out from it! The elevation here is about 1,846 feet (563 meters) above sea level.

The River's Journey

From Lake Gloriette, the Mohawk River flows generally towards the west and northwest. It travels through the landscape, making its way towards a larger river. For most of its path, you can find New Hampshire Route 26 running right beside it. This makes it easy to see the river if you're driving in the area.

Where the River Ends

The Mohawk River's journey ends when it reaches the Connecticut River. This happens in the town of Colebrook. At this point, the Mohawk River joins the Connecticut River, adding its waters to the larger flow. The elevation where it joins is about 995 feet (303 meters) above sea level.

Other Streams Joining In

Like many rivers, the Mohawk River has smaller streams that flow into it. These are called tributaries. On its left side, it gets water from Roaring Brook. On its right side, it's joined by Moose Brook, the West Branch, Read Brook, and Beaver Brook. These smaller streams help keep the Mohawk River flowing strong.
