The Mohawks of Kanesatake, also known as Kanehsatà:kehró:non, are a group of Mohawk people living in Quebec, Canada. They are part of the First Nations, which are the original peoples of Canada.
In 2016, there were 2,508 registered members in their community. Their main home is called Kanesatake Lands. This area is about 48 kilometers (30 miles) west of Montreal. They also share another area called Doncaster 17 with the Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke. This shared land is used for hunting and fishing.

Who Are the Mohawks of Kanesatake?
The people of the Kanesatake First Nation are Mohawk people. In October 2016, their community had 2,508 members. About 1,115 of these members lived outside of their main land area.
Where Do They Live?
Most of the Mohawks of Kanesatake, about 44%, live on their land called Kanesatake Lands. This area is located about 53 kilometers (33 miles) west of Montreal in Quebec. The land covers about 907.7 hectares, which is like 2,243 acres.
They also share a land area called Doncaster 17 with the Mohawks of Kahnawá:ke. This land is about 16 kilometers (10 miles) northeast of Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts. It is used for hunting and fishing. The main office for the Kanesatake community is in Kanesatake. The closest big cities are Laval and Montreal.
How Is Their Community Governed?
The Mohawks of Kanesatake are led by a group called a band council. This council is chosen by the community members through a special election system. This system follows rules from a law called the Indian Act.
For the years 2014 to 2017, the council included a chief named Serge Simon and six other leaders called counselors. They work together to make decisions for their community.
