Mohegan Lake is a community in Westchester County, New York, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the government for counting people.
The community is named after a private lake, also called Mohegan Lake. This lake has beaches, but sometimes they close for swimming. This happens if there are too many tiny plants called algae in the water, which can be harmful.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Mohegan Lake was a popular spot for summer vacations. Many people stayed in small holiday homes called bungalow colonies, like Skyview Colony and Lakeview Colony.

What's in a Name? The Story of Mohegan Lake
The name "Lake Mohegan" was first used in 1859. This was done by William Jones, who owned a hotel on the east side of the lake.
The Mohegan were a group of Native Americans. They were connected to the Pequot tribe from Connecticut. Over time, they moved west. However, there's no sign that the Mohegan tribe ever lived near Mohegan Lake in Westchester County.
The way the name is used changed in the early 1970s. Before that, people usually called it "Lake Mohegan." Now, it's more commonly known as "Mohegan Lake." The United States Census Bureau still uses "Lake Mohegan" for the CDP. In 2010, about 6,010 people lived here.
