Mohsin Ahmad Alaini (Arabic: محسن أحمد العيني; 20 October 1932 – 25 August 2021) was an important politician from Yemen. He served as the Prime Minister of the Yemen Arab Republic five different times between 1967 and 1975. A Prime Minister is like the head of the government in many countries.

Mohsin Alaini's Early Life and Education
Mohsin Alaini was born on October 20, 1932. When he was about 15 years old, in 1947, he was chosen for a special scholarship to study in Beirut. This means he got financial help to go to school there.
Later, he studied law at the Cairo University in Egypt from 1952 to 1959. He also studied at the Sorbonne in France for a year. In 1957, he wrote a book about Yemen's challenges.
Starting His Career and Political Journey
Alaini began his career as a teacher in Aden. Aden was under British rule at the time. He became involved in a movement that worked to end British control. This movement included trade unions, which are groups of workers who join together to protect their rights.
Because of his actions, the British government made him leave Aden in 1961. He then went back to Egypt. In Egypt, he joined a political group called the Ba'ath Party. He also worked with moderate Nasserists, who followed the ideas of Egypt's leader, Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Becoming Prime Minister
After a big event called the Civil War, Yemen changed from a monarchy (ruled by a king) to a republic. Mohsin Alaini was chosen as the first foreign minister of the new Yemen Arab Republic. A foreign minister handles a country's relationships with other nations.
He served as Prime Minister five times. Four of these times were under President Abdul Rahman al-Iryani. His terms were:
- From November 5, 1967, to December 21, 1967
- From July 29, 1969, to September 2, 1969
- From February 5, 1970, to February 26, 1971
- From September 18, 1971, to December 30, 1972
His fifth and final time as Prime Minister was under President Ibrahim al-Hamdi. This term lasted from June 22, 1974, to January 16, 1975.
Other Important Roles
When he wasn't serving as Prime Minister, Mohsin Alaini held many other important positions. He was often the foreign minister. He also worked as an ambassador for Yemen in many countries. An ambassador is a country's official representative in another country.
He was an ambassador to:
- The United Nations (several times)
- The Soviet Union
- France
- The United Kingdom
- West Germany
- The United States (for many years)
Later in his life, he was nominated to the Shura council. This council is a group of experienced older statesmen who advise the government.
Mohsin Alaini passed away on August 25, 2021, at the age of 88.
Mohsin Alaini's Family Life
In 1962, Mohsin al-Aini married Aziza Abulahom. They had two sons and two daughters. They also had thirteen grandchildren. His brother-in-law, Sinan Abu Luhum, was a strong supporter of his. Sinan Abu Luhum was the governor of the port city of Al Hudaydah for many years.
