The Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo is a super exciting yearly rodeo event in Molalla, Oregon, United States. It happens every year on July 4th. It's a big celebration of cowboy skills and American heritage!

A Look Back: The Buckeroo's History

The Molalla Buckeroo started way back in September 1913. This was when the railroad first came to Molalla! In the beginning, local firefighters organized the rodeo. They used the money they raised to buy new equipment for their fire department.

In 1923, a group called the Molalla Buckeroo Association was formed. They took over running the rodeo. This group has made sure the rodeo continues to be a big event every year.

The Buckeroo wasn't held during a few tough times. It didn't happen in 1917–18 because of the Spanish flu pandemic. It also took a break during World War II from 1942 to 1945. And most recently, it was paused in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How the Buckeroo is Organized

The Molalla Buckeroo Rodeo Association is a special group that runs the rodeo. It's a non-profit organization, which means they don't make money for themselves. Instead, they use their efforts to support the community.

More than 60 people volunteer their time to make the Buckeroo happen. These volunteers manage everything. They produce the show and do all the hard work. They also help with other events throughout the year. The Association is a very important part of the Molalla community.

The Association has a Board of Directors. These directors help make big decisions. There is also a smaller group called the Executive Committee. This committee helps manage all the different parts of the organization.

The Molalla Buckeroo is part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). This means it's one of the biggest rodeos in the Pacific Northwest! It's also a major event in the Columbia River Circuit of the PRCA. In 2005, the Molalla Buckeroo was even named the Columbia River Circuit Rodeo of the Year.

Besides the main PRCA rodeo, the Association hosts other fun events. These include events for the Willamette Valley Junior Rodeo Association. They also host BRN 4D Barrel racing. Plus, they have the annual Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Ross Coleman Invitational. This event often helps the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
