History of Moneta
How Moneta Started
Moneta was founded in 1906. This happened when the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company was building a new railroad line. The railroad was being built west from Casper.
Moneta became a stop along this important new railway route. It was located about 82.6 miles west of Casper. The community was named after a town called Moneta, Iowa.
The Post Office
A post office was opened in Moneta in 1906, the same year the community was established. This meant people living in Moneta could send and receive mail right there. The post office served the community for many years. It remained open until it was closed down in 1972.
