Monika Steiner was born in Switzerland in 1972. She studied at the University of Bern, where she earned a degree in arts and teaching. After that, she became a teacher at an elementary school in Bönigen. She loved to include art in her lessons.
In the year 2000, Monika moved to the United States. She continued her art studies at Sonoma State University. Moving to a new country can be a big change. Her Art Career
Monika Steiner's art career really took off in 2006. She had a show called "Confluence" in San Francisco, California. This show featured 11 of her unique artworks.
In 2008, she held an exhibition in Dorfmusem Bönigen. This was the same town where she used to teach as a schoolteacher.
Monika is known as an abstract artist. This means her art doesn't show things exactly as they look in real life. Instead, she uses shapes, colors, and forms to express her inner thoughts and feelings. Her art is like a way to show her memories, moments, and emotions.
She is very interested in spheres, which are perfect round shapes. Monika says spheres are nature's most perfect shape. They need the least amount of structure to hold the most space. She is amazed by how spheres can be as huge as planets or as tiny as parts of an atom.
Instead of regular canvas, Monika often paints on birchwood platforms. She prepares them with a special glue to make a hard, smooth surface. Besides painting, Monika also creates sculptures from bronze. She uses an old method called "lost-wax casting" to make her bronze pieces.
In 2011, Monika Steiner was invited to give a talk at TEDx Silicon Valley. This event was held at Stanford University.
