The Maturango Museum is a cool place to visit in Ridgecrest, California. It's famous for its guided tours to the Coso Rock Art District. This area has amazing ancient rock drawings! The museum also has many exhibits. These shows teach you about the natural and cultural history of the Northern Mojave Desert. You can see displays of animals, plants, and interesting rocks. There are also Native American artifacts and modern art.
About the Museum
The Maturango Museum first opened in 1962. It was created to share the history of Ridgecrest. It also highlighted the nearby China Lake area. The museum got its name from the tallest peak in the nearby Argus Range.
Where is the Museum?
The museum is in the town of Ridgecrest. This town is surrounded by four mountain ranges. To the west are the Sierra Nevada mountains. The Cosos are to the north. The Argus Range is to the east. Finally, the El Paso Mountains are to the south.

Since 2014, Debbie Benson has been the director. She helps make sure the museum is a great place to learn.
