How to Play Monster Rancher
One of the most exciting parts of Monster Rancher is how you get new monsters. You can find some monsters in the game, but the coolest way is by using CDs!
Getting Your Monsters
You can put almost any music CD into your PlayStation console. The game then reads special information from the CD to create a brand new monster just for you! Some CDs might even give you very rare or special monsters. For example, a Christmas music CD might give you a "Santa" type monster!
Once you have two or more monsters, you can try combining them. This creates a totally new monster that has traits from both "parents." There are twelve basic types of monsters you can find, like Dinos, Golems, and Pixies. There are also eight special types, such as Dragons and Ghosts. When you combine monsters, the new one gets a main type and a sub-type, which makes for lots of unique combinations!
Training and Battling
After you get a monster, your next job is to raise it! You'll train your monster to make it stronger for battles. There are six main stats that help your monster in a fight:
- Power: Makes physical attacks stronger.
- Intelligence: Helps with energy attacks and defending against them.
- Life: Shows how much damage your monster can take (its hit points).
- Skill: Helps your monster hit its target more often.
- Speed: Helps your monster dodge attacks.
- Defense: Reduces damage from physical attacks.
You can train your monster by having it do chores on your ranch. You can also send it away to be trained by experts. This can help your monster learn new attack moves! Sometimes, you can give your monster special food or vitamins to boost its stats. But be careful, some vitamins can make your monster's life shorter!
Winning Tournaments
To get ahead in the game, you'll need to enter your monster in fighting tournaments. When your monster wins a tournament, you earn money. This money is important because you need it to buy items and take care of your monster. If you run out of money, the game can end!
During a battle, your monster has different attacks it can use. Some attacks work best when your monster is close to its opponent, while others are better from a distance. You don't control your monster's exact moves. Instead, you tell it to move closer or farther away, and then it will use an attack that works at that distance.
