The Ancient Story of Mont Ham

Mont Ham has a very long history, going back millions of years. Its rocks tell a story of how the Earth has changed over time.

How the Mountain Was Formed

Mont Ham is part of the lower Appalachian Mountains. It was created more than 500 million years ago! This happened when huge continental plates (like giant puzzle pieces of the Earth's crust) slowly moved and crashed into each other. This movement pushed up the land, forming mountains like Mont Ham.

Rocks and Ice

Even though the mountain itself is very old, the land around it is much younger. About 12,200 years ago, during the Ice Age, huge glaciers covered the area. As these glaciers melted, they left behind piles of rock and dirt called moraine. The mountain's main rock is a special type called boninite.
