What is Montclar's History?
Montclar is an old town. We first find it mentioned in old papers from the year 1117.
In 1240, a king named James I of Aragon gave the land of Montclar to a person named Pere de Breda. However, by 1309, the land was back under the king's control.
Exploring Montclar's Culture
Montclar has some interesting old churches. The main church for the town is called Sant Martí. It was built a long time ago, in the 12th century. This church is built in a style called Romanesque. This means it has thick walls and rounded arches.
The Sant Martí church has one main room and a rounded end part called an apse. Later, a bell tower with a sloped roof was added. Inside, you can see beautiful old art from the Baroque period. There are also some newer parts from the neoclassical style. The church was fixed up in 1970.
There are other old churches in Montclar too. One is the Church of the Santa Creu. Another important one is the Church of Sant Quintí. This church has a rounded ceiling, like a tunnel, which is called a barrel vault. An old box that held special items (a reliquary) from the 11th century was moved from this church. It is now in a museum in Solsona.
Montclar has a fun town festival every January. It happens around the same time as the special day for Saint Sebastian.
