The Montes de María are a group of small mountains in northern Colombia. They are close to the Caribbean coast. These mountains are also known as the Serranía de San Jacinto. They are the final part of a larger mountain chain called the Serranía de San Jerónimo. This chain stretches all the way from the West Andes. A special part of these mountains is protected. It is called the Los Colorados fauna and flora sanctuary. This sanctuary helps protect the plants and animals living there.
