Where Does the Name Come From?

The name "Monufia" comes from an old city called Menouf. This city used to be the capital of the governorate. But in 1826, the capital was moved to Shibin El Kom. Even though the capital moved, the name stayed the same.

President Hosni Mubarak

Hosni Mubarak (1928-2020) was also born in Monufia, in the village of Kafr El Meselha. He became president after Anwar Sadat in 1981. Mubarak served as president for nearly 30 years. He was a key figure in Egyptian politics for a long time.
