Moores Hill is a town in Sparta Township, Dearborn County, Indiana, United States. In 2010, the town had a population of 597 people. By 2020, the population grew to 675.

History of Moores Hill

Moores Hill was first planned out in 1839. Two people, Adam Moore and Andrew Stevens, created the first nine lots. These lots were right next to Moore's gristmill, which was a mill used for grinding grain.

The community was first called Moores Mill. However, the postal service made a mistake and spelled it Moores Hill. The new name stuck, and that's what the town is called today.

Many of the first people to settle in Moores Hill were Methodist families. They came from places like Delaware and the coast of Maryland. Samuel Herron opened the first store in the town.

A book of poems called Pop. 359 is about Moores Hill and its people. It was written in 1941 by Carl Wilson, who used the pen name Tramp Starr.

Two important buildings in Moores Hill are recognized for their history. The Carnegie Hall of Moores Hill College and the Moores Hill United Methodist Church are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are special places that are worth preserving.
