A Look Back in Time
Mooringsport was first settled in 1836 by people from Alabama and North Carolina. Back then, it was an important spot for steamboats. These boats carried cotton and other goods, helping the local economy grow. Later, the Kansas City Southern Railway built tracks through the area. This helped the town connect even more with other places.

Mooringsport is in the western part of Caddo Parish. It sits right on the southern shore of Caddo Lake. This lake is famous for its beautiful cypress trees. The main road, Louisiana Highway 1, is about 2 miles (3.2 km) east of town. The city of Shreveport is about 18 miles (29 km) to the southeast. The town covers about 1.3 square miles (3.36 square kilometers) of land. Only a tiny part is water.
