A Look Back: Morgan's History
The area where Morgan is today has an interesting past with a few name changes.
Early Days as Saddle
Back in 1882, a post office was set up here. It was first called Saddle. This name came from a nearby hill known as Saddle Butte. The very first person in charge of the post office was Ozwell T. Douglas.
Becoming Douglas
When a railroad line was built through this spot in 1889, the train station was named Douglas. This was to honor the first postmaster, Ozwell T. Douglas. Because of the new station, the post office also changed its name to Douglas in 1890.
The Name Morgan Appears
In the early 1900s, the community's name changed one more time. Both the post office and the railroad station became known as Morgan. This new name was likely chosen after another local postmaster, Alfred C. Morgan.
Morgan's Weather: A Semi-Arid Climate
Morgan experiences a type of weather known as a semi-arid climate. This means the area is quite dry, but not as dry as a desert.
What is Semi-Arid?
In a semi-arid climate, you can expect hot, dry summers and cool to cold winters. There isn't a lot of rain or snow throughout the year. This type of climate is often shown as "BSk" on special climate maps, according to the Köppen Climate Classification system.
