Morris W. Hood III (born May 21, 1965 – died May 11, 2020) was an American politician. He served as a member of the Michigan Senate. He represented District 3 from 2011 to 2018. This area included the cities of Dearborn, Melvindale, and part of Detroit.
Early Life and Education
Morris Hood III was born in Detroit, Michigan. He was the son of Morris Hood Jr., who was also a politician. His uncle was Raymond W. Hood. Morris Hood III attended Wayne State University and Henry Ford College.
Political Career
Before becoming a politician, Morris Hood III worked at the Ford Motor Company. He was a production technician at their Dearborn Engine & Fuel Tank Plant.
In 2003, he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives. He served three terms in this role. Later, in 2010, he was elected to the Michigan Senate. In the Senate, he became the Michigan Senate Minority Floor Leader. This means he was a main leader for his political party in the Senate. He served in the Senate until 2018.
Morris Hood III was unable to run for re-election because of term limits. Term limits are rules that say how many times a person can be elected to the same job. After his time in the Senate, he worked for Wayne County.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer spoke highly of Morris Hood III. She called him "a dear friend and proud Detroiter dedicated to community service."

Morris Hood III passed away on May 11, 2020. His death was caused by COVID-19. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic in Michigan.
