Bishop Moses Bosco Anderson, SSE (September 9, 1928 – January 1, 2013) was an important leader in the Catholic Church. He served as a bishop, helping to guide many people in their faith.

Life and Education

Moses Anderson was born on September 9, 1928, in Selma, Alabama. He finished high school at Knox Academy in 1949. After that, he joined the Society of Saint Edmund, which is a group of Catholic priests and brothers.

He went to Saint Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont. There, he studied philosophy and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. He graduated with high honors, which is called magna cum laude. He then continued his studies at Saint Edmund's Seminary in Burlington, Vermont.

Bishop Anderson also earned two master's degrees. In 1961, he received a Master of Science in Sociology from Saint Michael's College. Later, in 1968, he earned a Master of Arts in Theology from Xavier University.

Becoming a Bishop

Moses Anderson became a priest on May 30, 1958. Years later, on December 3, 1982, he was chosen to be an auxiliary bishop for the Archdiocese of Detroit. An auxiliary bishop helps the main bishop lead the archdiocese.

He was officially made a bishop on January 27, 1983. This special ceremony took place at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit. He was also named the titular bishop of Vatarba, which is an honorary title.

Serving the Community

Bishop Anderson took on many important roles. On January 18, 1992, he became the head, or pastor, of Precious Blood Parish in Detroit. A parish is a local church community.

Starting in 1994, Bishop Anderson was put in charge of Region 1 of the archdiocese. This region included several cities like Detroit, Highland Park, Hamtramck, Grosse Pointe, and Harper Woods. He helped oversee ten different church areas, called vicariates, within this region.

Bishop Anderson retired in 2003 when he turned 75 years old.

His Passing

Bishop Moses Anderson passed away on January 1, 2013. He died in Livonia, Michigan, due to a heart attack.
