Mosteiros is a special area, like a county or district, in the country of Cape Verde. It's located on the northeast side of Fogo Island. This area covers about 19% of Fogo Island. About 26% of Fogo's people live here.
The main town in Mosteiros is also called Mosteiros, or sometimes Igreja. In 2010, about 9,524 people lived in the whole Mosteiros area. The total size of Mosteiros is about 89.45 square kilometers.

Geography of Mosteiros
Mosteiros is located between the Pico do Fogo volcano and the Atlantic Ocean. The volcano's slopes are to the southwest. A part of the Mosteiros area, about 23.7 square kilometers, is inside the Fogo Natural Park. This park includes the beautiful Monte Velha Forest.
Mosteiros is known for its farming. The most important crop grown here is coffee.
History of Mosteiros
The Mosteiros area became its own separate municipality in January 1992. Before that, it was part of a larger area called the Municipality of Fogo. The older Fogo Municipality was split into two parts. The southwest part became the Municipality of São Filipe. The northeast part became the Municipality of Mosteiros.

The number of people living in Mosteiros has changed over the years.
- In 1980, there were about 7,427 people.
- By 1990, the population grew to about 8,331.
- In 2000, it reached about 9,535 people.
- In 2010, the population was very similar, around 9,524 people.
Most people in Mosteiros can read and write. The literacy rate is about 82.6%. This means more than eight out of ten people can read. Also, about 30.5% of the people living in Mosteiros are under 15 years old.
