Motörhead was a famous English rock band. It started in 1975 with Lemmy (whose real name was Ian Fraser Kilmister). He was the band's bassist, singer, and songwriter. Even though they formed in 1975, they became very popular in 1979. This was when they joined a music movement called the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
Motörhead played a loud and fast style of music. Many people call their early music the start of speed metal or thrash metal. These are very fast and intense types of heavy metal. Motörhead greatly influenced many bands that play these styles today. However, Lemmy always said his band was simply a rock and roll band.
The band was listed as number 26 on VH1's TV show "The 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock." This shows how important they were in rock music.
Motörhead stopped playing together in 2015. This happened after Lemmy passed away on December 28th, just four days after his 70th birthday.

About Motörhead's Music Style
Motörhead's music was known for being very loud and fast. They mixed elements of heavy metal, hard rock, and punk rock. This unique sound made them stand out from other bands.
Their songs often had strong, driving rhythms. Lemmy's singing was also very distinctive. He had a rough, powerful voice that became a trademark of the band.
The Sound of Speed Metal
When Motörhead first started, they played music at a very high speed. This fast pace was new for heavy metal at the time. Because of this, many music fans and critics say Motörhead helped create a new type of music called speed metal.
Speed metal is a subgenre of heavy metal. It focuses on fast tempos and quick guitar riffs. Motörhead's early albums were very important for developing this sound.
Influence on Thrash Metal
Motörhead also had a big impact on thrash metal. Thrash metal is another fast and aggressive style of heavy metal. Bands like Metallica and Slayer, who are famous thrash metal bands, have said Motörhead was a major influence on their music.
Motörhead's raw energy and powerful sound inspired many musicians. They showed that rock music could be even faster and more intense.
Important Band Members
Over the years, Motörhead had a few different members. However, three members were in the band for a very long time. These were Lemmy, Phil "Wizzö" Campbell, and Mikkey Dee.
Lemmy: The Founder and Leader
Lemmy was the heart of Motörhead. He was the only member who was in the band from beginning to end. He wrote most of the band's songs. His unique voice and bass playing style made Motörhead instantly recognizable.
Lemmy was known for his strong personality and his love for rock and roll. He believed in playing music honestly and loudly.
Phil Campbell: Guitarist Extraordinaire
Phil "Wizzö" Campbell joined Motörhead in 1984. He was the band's guitarist for over 30 years. His guitar playing added a lot to Motörhead's sound. He helped create many of their famous riffs.
Mikkey Dee: The Powerful Drummer
Mikkey Dee became Motörhead's drummer in 1992. He was known for his powerful and precise drumming. His drumming helped give the band its heavy and driving rhythm. He was with the band until they stopped in 2015.
