Mottinger is what we call a ghost town in Benton County, Washington. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now it's mostly empty.
The Story of Mottinger
Mottinger got its start in 1908. That year, a post office was opened there. The town was named after two of the first people to settle in the area, G. H. and Martha Mottinger. The post office stayed open for many years, helping people send and receive mail. However, it eventually closed its doors in 1951. After the post office closed, fewer and fewer people lived in Mottinger, and it became a ghost town.
