How Mound City Got Its Name
Mound City was founded in the 1840s. It was first known as Houston's Mound. The name came from the area's higher ground, which looked like a mound.
Life in Mound City Before World War II
Before World War II, Mound City was a busy little town. In 1930, it had a general store, a church, and several homes. People lived and worked there, making it a lively community.
Mound City's Decline After the War
During World War II, many people from Mound City joined the military. Others moved to bigger cities to find jobs. This caused the town's population to shrink. Since the 1960s, there haven't been many people living there. Only a few houses remain today.

Education for Mound City Students
Mound City was never big enough to have its own school. So, students from Mound City went to school in nearby Percilla. Later, the Percilla school joined with the Grapeland Independent School District.
Students living on the Anderson County side of Mound City now attend schools in the Slocum Independent School District. This likely happened when Percilla's school system changed.
