Mount Agrihan is a huge volcano found on the island of Agrihan. This island is located in the Pacific Ocean. It's part of the Northern Mariana Islands. These islands are a special territory of the United States.
Mount Agrihan is a type of volcano called a stratovolcano. This means it's shaped like a tall cone. It's built up from many layers of hardened lava and ash. The top of Mount Agrihan is the highest point in the Northern Mariana Islands. It's also the highest point in all of Micronesia. The volcano stands about 3,166 feet (965 m) tall.
Volcano History
Mount Agrihan is an active volcano. Its last known eruption happened a long time ago, in 1917. Since then, it has been quiet.
In 2018, a team of explorers made history. John D. Mitchler and Reid Larson led an expedition. On June 1, 2018, they successfully climbed to the very top of Mount Agrihan. This was the first time anyone had completed the full climb to its summit.
