Mount Arthur Meighen is a tall mountain in British Columbia, Canada. It reaches a height of 3,205 m (10,515 ft). This mountain is part of the Premier Range within the Cariboo Mountains. You can find it in the east-central part of British Columbia. It is located south of the McLennan River and just west of the town of Valemount, British Columbia.
Naming Mount Arthur Meighen
This mountain is named after Arthur Meighen. He was an important political leader in Canada. Arthur Meighen served as the ninth Prime Minister of Canada. A Prime Minister is the head of the government in Canada.
Who Was Arthur Meighen?
Arthur Meighen held the office of Prime Minister twice. His first time was for about fifteen months, from 1920 to 1921. He then served for three months in 1926. He passed away in 1960. The mountain was officially given his name in 1962. Before that, it was known by the name "Carpé".
First Ascent of the Mountain
The first time climbers reached the top of Mount Arthur Meighen was in 1949. A team of six climbers made this achievement. They were Alex Faberge, Sterling Hendricks, Don Hubbard, Art Lembeck, Chris Scoredos, and Arnold Wexler.
