Mount Cabrebald is a mountain located in the beautiful Barrington Tops National Park in New South Wales, Australia. It stands tall at 1,017 meters (about 3,337 feet) above sea level. This makes it a significant landmark in the Upper Hunter area, about 200 kilometers (124 miles) north of Sydney, near the town of Singleton.

Mount Cabrebald is special because of its amazing 360-degree views from the top. Imagine seeing all around you for miles! The mountain is also famous for its unique plants. Even though it's mostly covered in thick forests, the summit (the very top) used to be covered in grass. You can still find a huge 12-hectare (about 30-acre) forest of Grass Trees here. These are very old and interesting plants.

Discovering Mount Cabrebald's Nature

Mount Cabrebald is part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia, which is a World Heritage area. This means it's a very important place for nature, recognized globally for its ancient rainforests. The mountain is home to many different types of trees and plants.

Trees and Plants of the Mountain

Besides the Grass Trees, you can find tall eucalyptus forests and lush rainforests in areas that haven't been affected by fires. Some of the notable trees growing here include the New England Blackbutt, which is a type of eucalyptus tree. You might also spot the Australian Red Cedar, known for its beautiful wood. But be careful! There's also the Giant Stinging Tree, which can give you a nasty sting if you touch it.

Ancient History of the Mountain

Mount Cabrebald was formed during the Eocene epoch. This was a very long time ago, roughly 56 to 33.9 million years ago! During this time, the Earth's climate was much warmer, and many new types of mammals and plants appeared. The rocks and landscape of Mount Cabrebald tell a story of these ancient times.
