Mount Curwood is a cool mountain located in L'Anse Township, Baraga County in the U.S.. It stands tall at 1,978 feet (about 603 meters) above sea level. This makes it the second highest point in the entire state of Michigan! It's part of the beautiful Huron Mountains range.
What's in a Name?
Mount Curwood got its name from a famous Michigan writer, James Oliver Curwood. He wrote many adventure stories. For a long time, people thought Mount Curwood was the highest spot in Michigan.
A Taller Neighbor?
Things changed in 1982. Scientists used new technology to measure the mountains more accurately. They discovered that a nearby mountain, Mount Arvon, was actually one foot taller! Mount Arvon is 1,979 feet high. So, Mount Curwood became the second highest point instead of the first.

Mount Curwood is found in the northern part of Michigan, in a place called Baraga County. This area is known for its amazing natural beauty, including thick forests and many lakes. The mountain is a popular spot for outdoor activities like hiking and exploring nature.
