Why is it called Mount McBride?

Mount McBride is one of two mountains in British Columbia named after Sir Richard McBride. He was a very important person who served as the Premier of British Columbia. A Premier is like the head of the government for a province in Canada.

There is also another Mount McBride in British Columbia. This one is named after Captain Kenneth Gilbert McBride. He was a Canadian officer who bravely served in the military during the Second World War. There is even another Mount McBride located far away in the Yukon!

Who first climbed Mount McBride?

It's not completely clear who was the very first person to climb to the top of Mount McBride. However, it is thought that a climber named Leroy Stirling Cokely might have been the first to reach the summit in 1926.
