The Summersville Lake Lighthouse
Mount Nebo is home to a special landmark: the Summersville Lake Lighthouse. This lighthouse was finished on June 20, 2013. It is unique because it is the only working lighthouse in all of West Virginia!
The lighthouse is not just for show. It is listed on FAA Charts, which means it helps airplanes navigate. It guides pilots, just like traditional lighthouses guide ships.
Building the Lighthouse
Many people helped build this amazing lighthouse. Students from nearby areas, including the Nicholas County Career & Technical School and the Fayette Institute of Technology, played a big part. They helped construct the 122 steps and the frame for the lamp room.
Two students were even hired to help finish the lighthouse. They worked as interns with experienced welders from Amick's Welding. This project was a great way for them to learn important skills. You can find more information about the lighthouse at southsideofthelake.com.
