Mount Sterling is a small place in Choctaw County, Alabama, United States. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
Long ago, before the American Civil War (this time is called antebellum), Mount Sterling was a busy and successful community. Its economy mainly relied on growing cotton and cutting down timber (trees for wood). Today, not much is left of its past. You can mostly find a few scattered houses.
One important building that still stands is the Mount Sterling Methodist Church. This church is so special that it's listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to the history of the United States.
