The name "Mount Vision" was given by Judge William Cooper. He was an important person in the early history of Cooperstown. In 1785, Judge Cooper's father stood on this mountain. From there, he saw Otsego Lake for the very first time. This special moment of discovery led to the mountain being named Mount Vision. It was a place where a great view, or "vision," was first seen.
