Mount Yengo's Importance to Indigenous Australians

Mount Yengo is a very important natural place for several Aboriginal Australian groups. These include the Wonnarua, Awabakal, Worimi, and Darkinjung peoples. They consider it a place of spiritual and ceremonial importance.

According to their traditional stories, known as Dreaming, Mount Yengo is a special site. It is believed to be the place where Baiame, a powerful ancestral hero, returned to the spirit world. Baiame is said to have created many features of the land. These include mountains, lakes, rivers, and caves in the area.

The stories say that when Baiame jumped back into the sky, he flattened the top of Mount Yengo. You can still see this flat top on the mountain today.
