The mountain big-eyed tree frog (Nyctimystes montanus) is a special kind of tree frog. It lives in the wild parts of New Guinea. So far, scientists have only found this frog in the Arfak Mountains. These mountains are located in Indonesia.

This frog gets its name from its big eyes. It is also called a "tree frog" because it lives mostly in trees.

What Does It Look Like?

The mountain big-eyed tree frog is not very big. An adult male frog is usually about 5.2 centimeters (about 2 inches) long. The female frogs are a little bigger. They can grow to about 6.3 centimeters (about 2.5 inches) long.

When scientists study preserved frogs, they notice their color. These frogs are usually gray or brown. They also have darker markings or patterns on their skin.

Where Does It Live?

This unique frog lives only in the Arfak Mountains. These mountains are found in the western part of New Guinea. This area is part of Indonesia. The frog lives in the forests of these mountains. It likes places that are wet and green.

Scientists are still learning about this frog. They want to know more about its life and how it lives in its mountain home.
