The Mr. Big chocolate bar first appeared in Canada in 1979. It was originally made by a company called Neilson. Today, Mr. Big is very popular in Canada. You can also find it in countries like Hungary and Poland, and in some parts of the United States.
Famous Ads
In the 1970s, there was a fun advertisement for Mr. Big in Canada. The saying for the ad was: "Mr. Big: so big they call him Mister."
When Mr. Big started selling in the U.S. in 1995, they had a special ad campaign. It featured the famous basketball player Shaquille O'Neal! Also, smaller versions of the Mr. Big bar are made especially for the Halloween season.
Who Makes Mr. Big Now?
In 1996, the Neilson company sold its candy-making part to Cadbury. This meant that Cadbury took over making the Mr. Big bar.
The Name "Mr. Big"
The name "Mr. Big" for candy was first owned by a company called Nestlé. Neilson, who made the bar, had to get permission from Nestlé to use the name. This was a bit tricky because Nestlé was a big competitor for Neilson. To solve this, Neilson later bought the full rights to the "Mr. Big" name for all candy products.
Mr. Big Ice Cream
For a long time, Mr. Big was the only Cadbury chocolate bar that also had an ice cream version made by Nestlé. This ice cream bar was stopped in the UK in May 2002.
