Mubarak Wakaso is a professional footballer from Ghana. He was born on July 25, 1990. He plays as a midfielder, which is a player who helps both in defense and attack.
Wakaso has played for many different football clubs. He spent a lot of his career in Spain. He also played in countries like Russia, Scotland, Greece, China, and Belgium.
He is also a key player for the Ghana national football team. He played for Ghana in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He also represented his country in five Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

Club Career: Playing for Teams

Starting in Ghana and Moving to Spain
Mubarak Wakaso was born in Tamale, Ghana. He started his football journey with a team called Ashanti Gold SC in Ghana. In 2008, he moved to Spain. He signed a five-year contract with Elche CF. He joined the club a bit later because he was playing for his country.
In early 2011, Wakaso left Elche. He then joined Villarreal CF's B team, which is a reserve team. This team also played in the Segunda División, Spain's second division.
On February 27, 2011, Wakaso played his first game in La Liga. This is Spain's top football league. He came on as a substitute for José Catalá. The game was a 2–2 draw against Racing de Santander. In his first full season, he played only six matches. His team, Villarreal, was unfortunately relegated from the top league that season.
On July 11, 2012, Wakaso signed a four-year contract with RCD Espanyol. He played in 23 league games for them in his only season with the club.
Playing in Russia and Scotland
In 2013, Wakaso moved to Russia. He joined FC Rubin Kazan in the Russian Premier League. On August 28, 2014, he went on loan to Celtic F.C. in Scotland for a season.
Wakaso scored in his first game for Celtic. It was in a UEFA Europa League group stage match against FC Red Bull Salzburg. The game ended in a 2–2 draw. After not playing much, he was loaned to UD Las Palmas in Spain for a year in August 2015.
Time in Greece and Back to Spain
On July 10, 2016, Wakaso signed a three-year contract with Panathinaikos F.C. in Greece. In a Europa League game against AFC Ajax, he was sent off (given a red card). This meant he had to miss more games.
In February 2017, Wakaso was loaned to another Spanish team, Granada CF. He scored his first goal for Granada on March 1. This helped his team win 2–1 against Deportivo Alavés.
Joining Alavés and Moving to China
On July 17, 2017, Wakaso signed a three-year deal with Deportivo Alavés. He scored his only goal for Alavés on May 18, 2019. This goal helped them win 2–1 against Girona FC. Girona was relegated from La Liga after this match.
Wakaso moved to China on January 18, 2020. He joined Chinese Super League team Jiangsu Suning F.C.. On April 12, 2021, he joined Shenzhen F.C. in the same country. This happened after Jiangsu Suning was no longer a team.
International Career: Playing for Ghana
Wakaso played for the Ghana national under-17 football team in 2005. He played two matches in the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Championship. Ghana did not make it past the group stage.
He made his debut for the senior Ghana national football team on October 13, 2012. This was in a match against Malawi.
On November 14, 2012, Wakaso scored his first goal for Ghana. It was in a friendly game against Cape Verde. He was chosen to play in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations. He scored the only goal in a group stage game against Mali from a penalty kick. He then scored both goals in a 2–0 win against Cape Verde in the quarter-finals.
Wakaso was part of Ghana's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He played his first World Cup game on June 21. He played for 22 minutes in a 2–2 draw against Germany.
On February 5, 2015, Wakaso scored a goal in Ghana's 3–0 win against Equatorial Guinea. This was in the semi-finals of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. This win took Ghana to the final. In the final match against the Ivory Coast, he scored his penalty shootout attempt. However, Ghana lost the game 9–8 in the shootout.
Personal Life
Mubarak Wakaso has a younger brother named Alhassan Wakaso. Alhassan is also a footballer and plays as a midfielder. He mostly played his career in Portugal.
Wakaso is a Muslim. In October 2018, he was in a car accident while going to the airport. Luckily, he was not hurt.
