Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam (born September 11, 1941 – died July 14, 2020) was a very important military officer in Bangladesh. He served as the top leader of the Bangladesh Navy, known as the Chief of Naval Staff, from 1991 to 1995.
Early Life and Training
Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam was born on September 11, 1941. When he was 18, in 1959, he decided to join the Pakistan Navy as a cadet. A cadet is someone who is training to become an officer.
He finished his training and became an officer in 1963. Later, he continued his studies at a special school called the College of Naval Command and Staff. This college is part of the Naval War College in the United States.
Before becoming the main leader, Islam was the deputy chief of naval staff. This means he was the second-in-command.
From June 5, 1991, to June 3, 1995, he held the highest position in the Bangladesh Navy. He was the Chief of Naval Staff. This role is like being the commander-in-chief of the entire navy.
His Passing
Muhammad Mohaiminul Islam passed away on July 14, 2020. He died due to health problems from COVID-19. This happened during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh.
