Muhammad Nurul Islam (born around 1943) is an important person from Chittagong, Bangladesh. He is a diplomat, which means he helps keep good relationships between countries.
Currently, he works as the Honorary Consul-General of Japan in Chittagong. This role means he represents Japan in Chittagong, even though he is from Bangladesh. He helps people from Japan and Bangladesh connect.
In 2012, the Government of Japan gave him a special award. It was called "the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon." This award honored his work in building strong ties between Bangladesh and Japan. He was the fifth person from Bangladesh to receive this high honor.
Early Life and Education
Muhammad Nurul Islam was born in 1943 in Chittagong. At that time, Chittagong was part of British India. He spent his childhood growing up in this city.
In 1963, he finished his studies at Chittagong College. This college was part of the University of Dhaka. Later, in 1968, he went to the University of Tokyo in Japan. He studied the Japanese language there with a special scholarship.
Career Highlights
In 1987, Nurul Islam started the Nippon Academy in Chittagong. This academy was created to help people learn the Japanese language. It also aimed to teach about Japan's culture and studies in Bangladesh. He also founded the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship in Chittagong.
A few years later, in 1989, he started the AOTS Alumni Society. AOTS stands for The Association for Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association. This group helped introduce Japanese business ideas in Bangladesh.
In 1990, he became the Honorary Consul of Japan in Chittagong. He held this position until 2000. After that, he was given an even higher role. He became the Honorary Consul-General of Japan. He is also a vice president of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC).
