Muhammad Nurul Islam (born around 1943) is an important diplomat from Chittagong, Bangladesh. He works as the Honorary Consul-General of Japan in Chittagong. This means he helps represent Japan's interests in that city. He is one of many foreign representatives in Bangladesh.
In 2012, the Government of Japan gave him a special award. It was called "the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon." This award recognized his work in building good relationships between Bangladesh and Japan. He was the fifth person from Bangladesh to receive this high honor.
Early Life and Learning
Muhammad Nurul Islam was born in 1943 in Chittagong. At that time, Chittagong was part of British India. He grew up in this city.
In 1963, he finished his studies at Chittagong College. This college was part of the University of Dhaka. Later, in 1968, he studied the Japanese language at the University of Tokyo. He received a scholarship from the Japan Foundation to do this.
His Career and Work
In 1987, Nurul Islam started the Nippon Academy in Chittagong. This academy was created to help people learn the Japanese language. It also taught about Japan in Bangladesh. He also founded the Association for Overseas Technical Scholarship in Chittagong.
In 1989, he started the AOTS Alumni Society. AOTS stands for The Association for Overseas Human Resources and Industry Development Association. This group aimed to bring Japanese-style business ideas to Bangladesh.
In 1990, he became the Honorary Consul of Japan in Chittagong. He held this role until 2000. After that, he became the Honorary Consul-General. He also serves as the vice president of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC).
