The Multeen Way is an exciting long-distance walking trail located in County Tipperary, Ireland. It stretches for about 23 kilometers (that's about 14 miles) and is usually completed in just one day. This trail starts in Tipperary Town and finishes in a place called Upperchurch.

It's officially known as a National Waymarked Trail. This means it's a special path that's well-marked and maintained for hikers by the National Trails Office of the Irish Sports Council.

Exploring the Multeen Way

The Multeen Way takes you on a journey through beautiful Irish countryside. It starts near Milestone and heads south towards Tipperary Town. Along the way, you'll pass through the lovely Golden Vale and the scenic Red Hills.

What You'll See on the Trail

The trail guides you through charming villages like Cappawhite and Donohill. Initially, you'll follow quiet roads to Donohill. Here, you'll pass a historic spot where the Battle of Sulcoit once took place.

After Donohill, the path changes to countryside tracks and paths. You'll walk through areas like Shandangan Fens and Greenfield Nature Park before reaching Cappawhite. From Cappawhite, the trail begins to climb into the Red Hills.

Climbing the Red Hills

As you climb, you'll follow mountain paths high above the village of Hollyford. This area was once home to famous outlaws called Rapparees in the 17th century! After passing the village of Milestone, the Multeen Way finishes in Upperchurch.

Connecting Trails

The Multeen Way is part of a much bigger project called the Beara-Breifne Way. This is a huge walking and cycling route that is still being developed. It plans to stretch all the way from the Beara Peninsula in County Cork to Breifne in County Leitrim.

This longer route follows the historic path of Donal Cam O'Sullivan Beare. He was a chieftain who led his followers on a long march after the Battle of Kinsale in 1602. The Multeen Way also connects to other trails. In Tipperary Town, it links up with the Ballyhoura Way. In Upperchurch, it connects to the Ormond Way.
