Episode Storyline
Mickey's Big Ride
The episode begins with an elephant arriving in Mumbai by train. This elephant has a broken tusk and is holding a lotus flower. He needs a ride and spots Mickey Mouse driving his auto rickshaw taxi. The elephant shows Mickey a mountain on a map, signaling he wants to go there. Mickey agrees to take him, saying they won't need the map.
Cows and Bollywood Fun
As Mickey drives through Mumbai, many cows block their path. Soon, a huge group of cows completely stops them from reaching the mountain. Mickey solves this problem in a very creative way. He starts a Bollywood-style musical number! Everyone, even the cows, joins in the fun. But Mickey accidentally drives in the wrong direction during the song.
Finding the Way
After driving for 17 hours, Mickey finally gives up and asks the elephant for his map. With the map, they travel through many difficult areas. They end up in a town next to a river. Mickey feels like giving up, but then he sees something amazing. The river's reflection shows the mountain is very close!
A Speedy Finish
Mickey gets an idea. He uses a pot of spicy curry as fuel for his auto rickshaw. With this super fuel, Mickey and the elephant zoom through the town. They finally arrive at the mountain! Unfortunately, Mickey's taxi gets completely destroyed. The elephant gives Mickey his lotus flower as a thank you. Then, the elephant mysteriously disappears right in front of Mickey.
Mickey realizes he is at a temple filled with many elephant statues. As he thinks about what happened, the lotus flower falls into a pool. It opens up to show a brand-new auto rickshaw, but this one has wings! Mickey is super happy and flies away from the mountain in his new ride.
Making the Music
Indian Sounds for Mickey
Christopher Willis is the composer for the Mickey Mouse series. Before this episode was made, the team told him they planned to set it in India. This gave him time to get ready to compose the music. Willis studied a lot about Bollywood music and its traditions. He even asked another musician who knew about Indian music for help. He wanted to understand how these unique songs are made and played.
Special Instruments and Singers
An Indian singer and songwriter named Charenjeet helped with "Mumbai Madness." She helped write the music and sang for the songs. Some of the special instruments used in the episode's music include a sitar, a bansuri, and a shehnai. Willis has said that creating the music for "Mumbai Madness" was his "most labor-intensive" job for the Mickey Mouse episodes. This means it took the most effort and hard work.
You can even listen to the episode's full music score. Christopher Willis released it on SoundCloud on November 21, 2019.
