Mumbo Jumbo at RCDB

Mumbo Jumbo is an exciting roller coaster located at Flamingo Land Resort in the UK. It first opened to the public on July 4, 2009. This thrilling ride is found in the "Lost Kingdom" area of the park. You can easily spot it with its bright orange supports and black tracks.

Mumbo Jumbo is an "El Loco" model roller coaster, built by a company called S&S – Sansei Technologies. It stands about 99 feet (30 m) tall. The ride features two inversions, which means it turns you completely upside down! You'll also feel a strong pull of up to 4 times the force of gravity (4g) during the ride.

World Records and Steep Drops

Mumbo Jumbo was once famous for having the steepest drop in the world! Its main drop is at an amazing 112-degree angle. This made it the steepest steel roller coaster from July 4, 2009, until July 16, 2011.

Representatives from Guinness World Records even attended the opening of Mumbo Jumbo. They were there to confirm its record for the "Steepest roller coaster made from steel." Before Mumbo Jumbo, another "El Loco" ride called Steel Hawg in Indiana Beach held this record.

However, new roller coasters soon broke Mumbo Jumbo's record. On July 16, 2011, a ride called Takabisha opened in Fuji-Q Highland, Japan. It has an even steeper drop of 121 degrees. Later, TMNT Shellraiser at Nickelodeon Universe, which is similar to Takabisha, took the record with a 121.5-degree drop.

What to Expect on the Ride

Mumbo Jumbo offers a unique and thrilling experience. It combines several exciting elements into one ride.

Key Ride Features

Elements
112-degree drop
Dive Drop (a mix of an Inline Twist and Half Loop)
Sloping Heartline Twist

Your Mumbo Jumbo Journey

Your adventure begins as the train leaves the station. It makes a wide 180-degree turn before reaching the chain lift. Once you reach the top, the car goes through an 's-bend' and another 180-degree turn. Then comes the famous 112-degree drop! You'll reach speeds of 41 miles per hour (66 km/h) at this point.

After the big drop, the train goes up a hill and makes a 180-degree turn. You'll then pass through some 'trim brakes' that help control the speed. Next, the train completes a series of banked turns, spinning you around 360 degrees. This leads into a barrel roll and then a half loop, turning you upside down.

After the half loop, the train rises into more 'trim brakes'. Once past these, you'll go through another 180-degree banked turn. Finally, you'll experience a heartline roll, which spins you around your heart's axis. The ride finishes with an overbanked curve before reaching the final brake-run.

Why the Name "Mumbo Jumbo"?

The owners of Flamingo Land Resort chose the name "Mumbo Jumbo" with a bit of humor. They said it's a playful way to describe how other theme parks sometimes boast about their new roller coasters. It's a fun, catchy name for such an exciting ride!
