Muna Lee (born October 30, 1981) is a retired American sprinter. She was a very successful athlete who competed in many races. Today, she helps coach other sprinters and hurdlers for the UAB Blazers Track & Field team.

High School Success

Muna Lee went to Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri. She played both track and field and basketball from 1997 to 2000.

During her high school years, Muna won an amazing 10 individual state championships in track and field. She also helped her relay teams win 3 state titles.

  • 100-meter dash: She won this race four times, every year from 1997 to 2000.
  • 200-meter dash: She also won this race four times, from 1997 to 2000.
  • Long Jump: Muna won the long jump in 1997 and 2000.
  • 4 x 100-meter relay: Her team won in 1997 and 1998.
  • 4 x 200-meter relay: Her team won in 2000.

In 2000, Muna Lee helped her high school team win the Missouri 4A Team championship. She was also named the top high school track athlete in Missouri in both 1999 and 2000. In 1999, she was recognized as the AAU's Most Outstanding girls' high school track and field athlete.

College Career

Muna Lee continued her track career at Louisiana State University (LSU) from 2001 to 2004. She became one of LSU's most successful track and field athletes ever. She won 7 NCAA championships and 12 SEC championships. She was also named an All-American 20 times!

Key College Achievements

  • In 2001, she earned 4 NCAA All-American honors. She finished first in the 4 x 100-meter relay at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
  • In 2002, she was named the USTCA Women’s Athlete of the Year. She helped LSU win the NCAA Indoor Track and Field team title. She won the 200-meter dash at this event.
  • In 2003, Muna led LSU to their second straight NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. She won both the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash at this championship. She also won the 4 x 100-meter relay at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
  • In 2004, she helped LSU win their third straight NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship. She won the 60-meter dash for the second year in a row. At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, she won the 4 x 100-meter relay.

USA Track & Field Career

Muna Lee also had a fantastic career competing for the United States. She participated in the Olympic Trials and represented her country in major international events.

Olympic and World Championship Highlights

  • In 2004, Muna made her Olympic debut in Athens, Greece. She competed in the 200-meter dash and finished seventh in the final. She had earned her spot on the Olympic team by placing second in the 200-meter dash at the USA Olympic Trials.
  • In 2005, she won a gold medal as part of the women's 4 x 100-meter relay team at the World Track and Field Championships in Helsinki, Finland. She also placed seventh in the 100-meter dash at the same event.
  • In 2008, Muna competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. She ran in the 100-meter dash and finished fifth in the final. Before the Olympics, she won the 100-meter dash at the US Olympic Trials with a personal best time of 10.85 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash at the trials.
  • In 2009, she competed at the World Track and Field Championships in Berlin, Germany. She finished fourth in the 200-meter dash final. A week before this, Muna was part of a US 4 x 100-meter relay team that ran one of the fastest times ever, showing how strong the team was.
