The Munchkins are a group of friendly people who live in the make-believe Munchkin Country. This land is part of the magical world of Oz, created by writer L. Frank Baum in his famous Oz books. The Munchkins first appeared in the very first Oz story, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900. In this book, they are described as always wearing blue clothes.

Munchkins in the Movies
The Munchkins became even more famous when The Wizard of Oz movie came out in 1939. In the film, the Munchkins are shown as being much shorter than other people in Oz. They wear bright, colorful outfits, and their home is called Munchkinland.
Who Played the Munchkins?
For the movie, the Munchkins were played by actors who were little people, as well as some children. They brought the characters to life with their singing and dancing, especially in the famous scene where Dorothy first arrives in Munchkinland.
A Star on the Walk of Fame
The actors who played the Munchkins in the 1939 movie were honored in a special way. On November 20, 2007, they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is a famous sidewalk in Hollywood, California, where stars are placed to celebrate people who have made a big impact in entertainment.
