Munkfors Municipality (which in Swedish is Munkfors kommun) is a special area in Värmland County, located in west-central Sweden. It's like a small local government area. The main town and center of the municipality is called Munkfors.
In 1952, the rural area of Ransäter became a market town. It was renamed Munkfors, after its main settlement. Later, in 1971, it became a municipality without changing its size. Today, Munkfors Municipality is one of the smallest in Sweden, based on how many people live there.
Famous People and Places
The area of Ransäter is home to the Geijer School. This school is named after a famous writer, Erik Gustaf Geijer (1783-1843). He was born on a farm in Ransäter.
Another very important person from Ransäter was Tage Erlander (1901-1985). He was the Prime Minister of Sweden for a long time, from 1946 to 1969.
