Muros de Nalón (called Muros in Asturian) is a small town on the coast of Spain. It is located in the region of Asturias. The municipality covers an area of 8.09 square kilometers. To the north, it meets the Bay of Biscay. The Nalón river forms its eastern border. To the south is Pravia, and to the west is Cudillero.
A special tree in this area is the eucalyptus. These trees cover many slopes leading down to the coast. Muros de Nalón has two main administrative areas, called parishes. These are Muros de Nalón itself and San Esteban de Pravia. The Muros de Nalón parish includes five smaller villages: Ea, Pumariega, Muros, Reborio, and Villar.
You can find two important buildings here: the Palace of Valdecarzana and Vallehermoso and the Church of Santa María. For amazing views of the Asturian coast, visit the Mirador del Espíritu Santo.

History of Muros de Nalón
For a long time, before the 1800s, the history of Muros de Nalón was connected to nearby towns. These towns included Pravia, Cudillero, and Soto del Barco. They all shared one main local government. This makes it hard to study Muros' history on its own during that period.
Becoming an Independent Town
On April 14, 1847, Muros de Nalón officially became its own separate municipality. This meant it had its own local government, no longer part of Pravia. At that time, people called it by different names like Muros, Muros de Nalón, or Muros de Pravia. However, on June 27, 1916, a special Royal Decree made Muros de Nalón its official name.
Major Changes in the 1800s and 1900s
The 1800s brought many big changes to the area. During the Peninsular War, French troops, led by Marshal Michel Ney, attacked the town. In 1827, local people in Muros started to have disagreements with the Valdecarzana council. By 1847, Muros de Nalón was finally set up as an independent municipality. Around this time, a road connecting Muros to San Esteban de Pravia was also built.
In September 1934, before the Spanish Civil War began, a ship named Vapor Turquesa arrived. It carried a large amount of weapons. These weapons stayed in Asturias and caused many problems during the Civil War. In Muros de Nalón, the Civil War started a day later than in other parts of Asturias.
After the Spanish Civil War, a large company called Ensidesa was created in Avilés. This led to a period of great industrial growth in Muros de Nalón. This growth continued until the 1970s, when the Spanish industry faced a difficult time.
