The Murray Bridge railway station is a train station in the town of Murray Bridge, which is in South Australia. It sits on the main train line that connects Adelaide to Wolseley.
A Look Back in Time
The Murray Bridge station first opened in the 1880s. It was built as part of the longer Adelaide to Wolseley railway line. This important train line was opened in different stages.
- On 14 March 1883, the line reached Aldgate from Adelaide.
- Then, on 28 November 1883, it extended to Nairne.
- By 1 May 1886, trains could travel all the way to Bordertown.
- Finally, on 19 January 1887, the line was completed to Serviceton.
The station was first managed by the South Australian Railways. Later, in March 1978, it was taken over by Australian National. In July 1998, the station's ownership changed again to the Australian Rail Track Corporation.
Trains That Stop Here
Today, only one passenger train service uses the Murray Bridge station. This service is called The Overland. It is operated by a company named Journey Beyond.
The Overland train travels twice a week. It connects Adelaide with Melbourne. So, if you're traveling between these two big cities, you might stop at Murray Bridge!
