His first acting role was in a 2001 episode of the TV show Will & Grace. After that, he played many different characters in movies and on television. For over 50 years, he also ran his own record store in Los Angeles called Music Man Murray.

The film was called Music Man Murray, named after his nickname and his store. After the film was shown at festivals around the world, he sold his entire collection. This happened in June 2013.
