What You Can See at the Museum
The Museum Center is more than just a history museum. It's also an art museum and a place for cultural events. It holds many exhibits and old items that tell the story of the Ocoee Region in Southeast Tennessee. This area includes Bradley and Polk Counties, plus the Chattanooga area.
The River of Time Exhibit
One special exhibit is called "The River of Time." This permanent display shows the history of Bradley County, Polk County, and parts of East Hamilton County. It's like a journey through time, showing how the area has changed.
Changing Exhibits and Art
Besides "The River of Time," the museum often has new exhibits. About five or six different shows come through each year. This means there's always something new to discover! The museum also has a store where you can find amazing arts and crafts. These items are made by artists from the region and the Southern United States.
Events and Activities
The Museum Center is also a popular spot for different events. Many community gatherings and private parties happen here. It's a lively place where people can learn and have fun together.
How the Museum Started
The idea for the museum first came up in 1992. People wanted a place to keep and share the history of the Ocoee District. This district is a special part of Southeast Tennessee.
Building the Museum
A group was formed in 1992 to plan the museum. They wanted it to be a non-profit place focused on education and art. It would have a professional team to care for old objects and show them to the public. Their goal was to "tell the story of the Ocoee Region." Construction on the museum began on May 28, 1998. The Museum Center at 5ive Points officially opened its doors on September 11, 1999.
Awards and Mission
In 2011, the museum received the MainStreet Cleveland award. This award recognized its importance to the community. On June 18, 2013, the museum updated its main goal. It decided to focus simply on "telling the story of the Ocoee Region."
